TOP is seeking a Harris County Field Director that is highly motivated, creative and committed to social, racial, and economic justice. The Harris County Field Director will report directly to the TOP Organizing Director. The main roles of the Harris County Field Director are to implement and manage the field organizing of the Harris County operation, supervise and provide support to local staff to ensure the build out of high performing teams, and win strategic campaigns that advance the overall goals of the organization and improve the lives of the people of Harris County.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Responsible for the integration of Harris County organizing staff with overall strategic direction of the organization.
Directly supervises local organizing staff – checking in regularly on workplans, managing the overall performance of staff, conducting regular performance reviews and creating and implementing development plans (in conjunction with Deputy and Training Directors).
Works directly with organizers on campaigns – providing strategic support, reviewing campaign calendars and workplans, etc.
Works closely with member leaders on strategic campaigns—ensuring that they play a key role in both the internal and external activities of the organization.
Together with the Harris County Director, oversee and coordinate among various campaigns running out of the Harris County office managing a master calendar for all activities, making sure resources are being maximized and duplication is minimized, ensure that campaigns are properly resourced, coordinating communications needs with the appropriate communication staff and political work and asks.
Together with Harris County Director, drive voter engagement program for County, including managing large canvass and phone bank efforts.
Responsible for providing direct development of some key lead level and organizing staff.
Together with the Harris County Director and Deputy Director, operations staff and campaign leads, develop, monitor and administer the Harris County Office budget.
Assist Harris County Director in ensuring relationships with key strategic partners are well managed and the organization is properly represented in coalition meetings or meetings with outside organizations and individuals – politicians, unions, etc.
Drive culture among staff that embodies the principles of the organization, accountability and pride in smart and effective staff work.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Requires significant experience in grass-roots community organizing and strategic campaigning in addition to management experience – supervising staff, driving teams and coordinating campaigns with multiple campaign components.
Can think strategically and prioritize staff work and help staff in a dramatically changing political environment.
Proven manager and supervisor capable of building high performing teams and motivating and developing staff.
Takes initiative and has a strong work ethic. Willing to put in the time necessary to get the work done.
High level of organization with an ability to manage multiple tasks. Has an ability to identify, organize and prioritize organizational work tasks.
Can exercise high level of autonomous decision making and problem solving.
High level of facilitation and leadership skills in collaborative work.
Exemplary proficiency in interpersonal communication, listening and conflict resolution; diplomatic in resolving issues.
Strong written communication skills.
High level of proficiency in strategic campaigning and organizing practices.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.
