Texas Organizing Project is seeking a talented and dedicated Campaign Coordinator to help build our organization as part of an exciting effort interweaving community grassroots organizing with policy advocacy focused on fair housing and neighborhood rights in low-income and minority communities. These communities have historically suffered because of disinvestment of decent housing stock, public infrastructure, education and the exclusion of community input. The Campaign Coordinator will be key in working with community members to build power in their neighborhoods and carrying out an innovative plan that will begin addressing some of these systemic issues.
The ideal candidate is an experienced coalition-builder and tactician who believes deeply in the importance of building community leadership, capacity and power. The Campaign Coordinator will be responsible for working with community leaders to execute a sophisticated campaign plan, coordinate related activities and efforts of allies to advance our campaign priorities and establish the basis for longer-term, ongoing work in Houston. S/he must be able to organize and effectively communicate at all levels – with grassroots community people as well as established community leaders and policy experts. The Campaign Coordinator will report directly to the Harris County Director and work closely with existing community leaders, community organizers and core partners in building TOP as an organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Execute a sophisticated and winning campaign strategy by working with community leaders
Work directly with community leaders and stay abreast of neighborhood issues that align with campaign
Arrange for and prepare community leaders to host small community meetings to directly engage community leaders
Provide leadership training to community leaders
Work directly with key partners to understand public policy that impacts campaign
Identify opportunities to organize actions and events to raise the profile of the campaign
Work with key partners on joint event scheduling, logistics planning and community turnout
Coordinate campaign messaging, talking points and strategy with TOP’s communication department
Regularly communicate the campaign’s progress to our members, partners and allies
Coordinate, collaborate and strategize in tandem with TOP leadership, staff and key partners
Work with staff and allies to identify online and social media opportunities and develop actions around them
Work with the existing database to track members, participation and progress towards achieving success
Enhance our reputation and brand, and promote our value
Other duties, as required.
